This technique reminds me of super sampling and increasing the resolution of an image. After searching more information on this technique, I found that this method can be used to increase the fps of a video. Especially, when restoring those old films, this technique with some deep learning network can retrieve a more connected video for us.

It's so interesting to me that they use interpolation between keyframes. I always thought animators either drew the entire animation or used computer generations all the way through. However this seems to make the process much simpler.

This interpolation is really interesting. I imagine there are lots of ways to do it with motion that are better than others. The "motion smoothing" effect on TVs gives me a headache and it seems like that would be like interpolation without the declarative info provided by keyframes.
