In this video https://youtu.be/OOu5KP3Gvx0?t=577 I learned something interesting about how phase and magnitude are important in the image. If you take the fourier transform of an image and keep the phase, but instead of the image's magnitude, use the average magnitude of a bunch of random natural images, you'll get a recognizable image back. This preservation shows that the phase is extremely important.
