I was a bit confused as to what inverse kinematics was and whether it had any relationship with forward kinematics. This thread here provides a pretty solid, succinct take on the similarities and differences between the two: https://bit.ly/2uzXiHn. In short, forward kinematics is intended to define movement while inverse kinematics can be used to recover the original joint movements.
