Or is this unrelated, since this is a photo, and in Star Trek's production, the flare might have been manufactured..?

@frgalvan Interesting. I guess it's not totally unrelated. But obviously they tweak a lot of stuffs during production. The lens flare effect can be generated quite easily. (You can try to make one using softwares such as Adobe After Effects.)

I hope this isn't super dumb, but why are they circles? If we were using pixels, wouldn't they be squares?
