This is a great example for showing how proofs can be used in a very practical way to determine something that would otherwise be very difficult to figure out or really even reason about without.


I think this is somehow related to a discretized version of the hairy ball theorem from differential geometry! Although I don't have the mathematical chops to actually figure out this connection :(
