Is there value in storing multiple levels of this simplification, similar to mipmaps?

@ABSchloss Seems like Level of Detail is kinda like the mipmap analogue for 3D scenes to some extend. Wouldn't make sense to have a high poly, 30,000 tri skull a mile in the distance, after all.
