Exaggeration is a really powerful tool in animation and story telling, and it can really help to emphasize story points. A really great example of incorporating exaggerated movements and actions to enhance storytelling in an animated film is the recent Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse. I saw a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEXUG_vN540 that talks about how the animators used exaggerated movements on certain characters to enhance the look and feel of the movie and aid in storytelling.
