Is the point light on the left referring to a light directly above the scene indicated by the concentration of the light on the black ball? How should I picture environment map lighting if not from one central point?

^ It seems to be referring to direct lighting coming from a light source (left picture), as opposed to indirect lighting coming from light refracted off of the surrounding environment (right picture)
