A difference between BRDF and BSSRDF is that BSSRDF can describe light transport between any two rays that hit a surface, meanwhile BRDF will assume that light entering a material leaves the material at the same position.


how much more compute is needed for bssrdf compared to brdf? is it always a lot more or does it really depend on the objects rendered?
